Pi (denoted ) is the mathematical constant that is equal to the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter. In algebraic terms:



The value of pi works out to be an irrational, non-terminating decimal. It is approximately equal to 3.141593 in decimal form and 22/7 in fraction form.

Pi is a value that will show up again and again in mathematics. Just a few examples are:

Area of a Circle = r2

Volume of a sphere = (4r3)/3

Circumference of a Circle = 2r
